This year is the first, and hopefully only, election conducted under tight pandemic controls. As an association, we took the decision to minimise any door-to-door campaigning to safeguard our volunteers and the people they would be visiting, despite this being permitted during lockdown. We therefore limited our campaigning activities to delivering leaflets and social media. Other parties will have gone through similar discussions and reached different conclusions.
This low in-person contact decision extends to not doing telling on polling day, Thursday 6th May. The Council has put a lot of time into planning how to keep voters safe, including entering and exiting the polling station. We believe the best way we can play our part is to avoid adding to congestion and confusion so people can cast their votes with the minimum of fuss. Again, other parties may have reached a different conclusion.
You may see our candidates passing by polling stations, either to cast their own ballot or to see for themselves how busy a polling station is, however, they will not be asking for your polling card number.
We stand by the continuing excellent work done locally by both Surrey and Reigate & Banstead Councils and how they've helped us all through the past year or so with the issues caused by COVID. We believe this record of delivery, and the quality of our local candidates wishing to represent you are the most compelling reasons to vote Conservative this year.
